Every bit helps the community
When the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service approached Woodley’s Motors for a donation towards a new Honda Generator, the company was more than happy to arrange the donation and decided to do some fundraising of their own.
“We contacted The Honda Foundation and they were very happy to donate the total amount needed for the purchase, which was $4500,” Woodley’s Motors principal Mark Woodley said.
“They also donated money rather than the generator so it could be purchased locally.”
The Honda Foundation draws on voluntary contributions from Honda’s Australia-wide network of dealers, from Honda Australia itself and from private donors. Established in 1992, the Foundation has disbursed over $8.1 million in grants to a wide range of applicants from the Australian community.
Woodley’s Motors also decided to hold a ‘Used Car Road Train Sale’ in December. With every vehicle sold, Woodley’s donated $50 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. The Used Vehicle Road Train sales were beyond all expectations, with $2500 raised for the Service.
“The promotion was designed to encourage people to buy locally and we felt this contribution towards their operating costs would be welcome as well,” Mr Woodley said.
Special Project Coordinator for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Barry Walton said the Service welcomed the donation from Woodley’s Motors.
“As a community operated service, donations we receive go into keeping the Service operating for the communities of the New England North West and offering a free of charge service,” Mr Walton said.
“All donations over $2 are tax deductable and last year the helicopter completed its 2000th mission. On average the helicopter is flying just over 200 missions per year.
“The donation of a generator will ensure that we are able to continue to support the community in event of power loss at our helicopter base.”
Woodley’s Motors Tamworth is a fourth generation family company, established in Tamworth in 1919. The company employs 60 local people, which in turn supports their families, and the local economy.
“Woodley’s has been in business for over 80 years thanks only to the support of our local community,” Mr Woodley said.
“Without their continued patronage we would not be growing so rapidly, so is it only right that we give back to the community that has supported us for so many years. I must thank our wonderful team and their excellent service as well, without them we would not be able to provide as much support in the future.”
